viPlugin 1.19.0 not working in Eclipse Helios (3.6)

I've tried installing viPlugin both via the online update site and a locally unzipped download. The install "appears" to run fine, but when I restart Eclipse there is no "vi" button on the toolbar and the editor is not accepting vi keybindings.

3.6.0 on Mac Snow Leopard
(probably not what you meant, but did you choose the viplugin scheme in preferences->general->keys?)
The issue I'm seeing in 3.6 is that the keyboard response in the editor gets slower and slower until it is unusable and I have to restart Eclipse. Only takes a couple hours before I have to restart. I have no idea if this is a viplugin issue.
