viPlugin SVN access

Hi folks,

I heard the voices and finally managed to do all the preliminary work to allow paying customers access to the SVN repository. Still missing is some kind of hacking guide, but I know you are smart guys and will find out the bits and pieces on your way, until I have written one :-)

The not so long and winding road to access:

- Head over to http://www.xp-dev.com/ and create and account
- Write me an email to gnosticus at gmx dot at with your xp-dev username and the name or email address you used to buy the viplugin
- I read my emails and add you as read-only to the repository
- If you want you can send patches back to me so they find their way back into the trunk

Voila!

Legal stuff:
You are allowed to modify the source code for your own use, but you are not allowed to give, rent or sell the source code to any third party.

Who would have thought?

I was just wondering if there is possibility of submitting the patch, or if the opening of the code was only for personal use, since it was not quite clear from the original announcement. I didn't mean to upset you or anything :D.

I think this is a very positive development and hopefully we'll now see faster development of new features.

One thing I would like to see, though, is a forum or wiki or something where we can collaborate; document how to hack the source, post in-progress patches, that sort of thing.

I wasn't suggesting that what people check in gets picked up automatically. Just that there is ability to check stuff in and for you to accept the changes or not.

Otherwise, this opening of code would not be very useful or productive.

Does this mean you can only modify the source for your own use, but you can't contribute changes back (check code in) for everyone else as well?

You can send me a patch and if it's good I'll merge it to the trunk. What do you think would happen if everybody could commit whatever he/she wants? How could I implement some real big changes then?

Yep, that's what I'm hoping for. I just think that maybe bigger enhancements might need beta testing before they get merged into trunk.

Btw, I just sent you an mail with a patch that closes bugs 528 and 581 by reimplementing marks to directly utilize Eclipse bookmarks.
